About this app
TetherFuseNet shares your phone's internet connection with other devices, such as a laptop, without needing root. It sets up its own Wi-Fi network on your phone, and anything that joins it can get online through your phone's Wi-Fi or mobile data. It can also share with a single device over a USB cable when USB tethering is switched on. It used to be called TetherFi.
Under the hood it runs a Wi-Fi Direct network and a proxy on your phone, so you do not need a carrier hotspot plan, though it works best with an unlimited data plan. You can pick the network name, password, proxy port and Wi-Fi band, and the app walks you through the setup on the other device. Once it is running you can see who is connected, block a device by its IP address, and set a transfer or bandwidth limit. It can also stop itself after 10 minutes with no one connected.
This is not a normal hotspot. Each device you connect has to be told to use the proxy in its Wi-Fi settings, so apps that ignore proxy settings will not get online. The developer says it is still a work in progress: ordinary web browsing should work, but online games and consoles do not, and some chat, video and email apps may fail. You need Android 8 or newer, Wi-Fi turned on, and the location or nearby devices permission that Android requires for Wi-Fi Direct. Official releases are on Google Play, where the developer also offers optional in-app purchases to support the work; none are needed to use the app.
