About this app
Standard Notes keeps your writing in an end-to-end encrypted account, so only you can open it. It syncs to as many devices as you like without paying, and the app stays deliberately plain — a list of notes and somewhere to type — so nothing gets between you and the writing.
The project cares a lot about lasting: simple formats, published source code, and clear instructions for running your own sync server if you would rather not use theirs. You can tag notes, lock individual ones behind a passcode, and export the lot at any time in plain or encrypted form.
You create an account to get started, and encrypted sync on unlimited devices is part of the free version. The free plan is plain text only, though — Markdown and rich text, folders, spreadsheets and file storage all sit behind a paid plan. Self-hosting the sync server is an option either way.
