About this app
Element X is the current Matrix messenger from Element. Matrix is an open chat network: anyone can run a server, and people on different servers still message each other normally. You get private one-to-one chats, private and public rooms, video calls, emoji reactions, replies, polls and pinned messages.
It is a complete rewrite of the older Element app, built on the Matrix Rust SDK, which makes starting up and syncing your rooms noticeably quicker. You choose where your account lives — the big free server at matrix.org, a smaller community one, or your own — and you can talk to friends using FluffyChat, Cinny and other Matrix apps.
It is a separate app from the older Element Classic rather than an update to it, though the Element team now points new users here. Needs Android 7 or newer.
